If you plead guilty to the misdemeanor of pissing behind a dumpster, you pay a fine. If you fight, they go heavy on the charge (indecent exposure instead of public urination), and if convicted of that sex crime, you get the sex offender designation.
Public urination is not a sex crime, and conviction of it does not land you on the sex offender registry.
